Course: Sports Orthopedic/ Massage Therapy
Course Requirements:
Level 4 in Sports Massage Therapy or equivalent prior to the commencement of the ITEC level 5 (UK) Sports Massage Therapy Qualification. This new exciting course covers the ITEC syllabus Units iUSP161 and Unit iUSP158. It has been designed for Therapists who are currently working in the Sport and Active leisure, including Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists and Massage Therapists with the requisite understanding and complex skills and techniques to work as an advanced Sports Massage Practitioner / Therapists. Advances practitioners will be equipped to work with clientele ranging from recreational sports, active leisure enthusiasts to professional sports persons and elite athletes.
The course is delivered with a practical focus. It aims to progress the Sports Massage Therapist into addressing Complex Muscular-skeletal and Neurological dysfunctions. It emphasises posture and biomechanics as an important tool in the prevention and management of sports injuries. Throughout the course you will be introduced to the most up to date theories and practices of remedial massage therapy. It keeps best practice and safe practice as an important element in devising rehabilitation programs
The ITEC Award in Infection Prevention for CAM and Sports Massage must be completed if not already completed.
Overview of syllabus
Complex Assessments for Sports Massage Therapy
1 In depth A&P study of the Neurological system Nerve pathways
Dermatomes
Myotomes
2 Neurological assessment - Dermatomes and myotomes - Deep Tendon Reflexes
3 Injury management in phases of recovery / Ladders of rehabilitation
4 Injury management and client assessment under SOAP
5 Orthopaedic assessments for all Major joints and the vertebral column. ie: SLR Empty Can test, Lachmans test.
6 Sports Massage Therapy treatments:
LDM , MET, PNF, CTM, STR, NMT, MFR, AIS
8 LDM with Kineso taping, and Active Isolated Stretching for treatment and management of injuries.
9 Bio-mechanics of gait cycles in relation to sports
10 Gait Assessment / Bio-mechanical assessment / measurement of active / passive joint ROM - Goniometer testing.
11 Clinical Reasoning and problem solving -- to devise a treatment plan from information gathered.
Provide Complex Techniques and treatments
1 Rehabilitation techniques, fitness and functioning testing.
2. Review all sports specific techniques introduced in Level 4 and introduce Neuro Kinetic therapy and Myofascial Release and
3 Feedback and evaluating when to incorporate different modalities into treatment programs.
4 Sports massage Therapy treatments:
LDM , MET, PNF, CTM, STR, NMT, MFR, AIS.NKT.
5 Apply the advanced techniques to patho-physiological injuries and soft tissues dysfunction in sports related condition
as per Syllabus
7 Supervised treatments in clinic or at events has been a major teaching element of all courses for many years.
